In the world of education, communication and information security are essential challenges. Jérémie Goalès, Head of the Saint-Christophe and Sainte-Adèle primary schools in Tourcoing, found an innovative solution to meet these needs: Whaller.
In this interview, he shares his experience and explains how Whaller has transformed practices within his schools. From discovering Whaller through the General Secretariat for Catholic Education to successfully implementing it within his teams, discover how Whaller has become an essential tool for these schools. Jérémie Goalès also reveals his future plans to continue strengthening community engagement through this innovative solution.
How did you discover Whaller, and what were your selection criteria?
I discovered Whaller through the General Secretariat for Catholic Education, as part of projects linked to the teacher network “Bâtisseurs de possibles“. When I choose a solution for my school, I always look for a high-quality tool that guarantees security for all its users. It’s about the ethics of the Whaller company, the values it upholds, the issue of digital sovereignty, data protection, and the secure framework the platform provides.
Who makes up your communities, and how are they structured?
Each community follows a similar pattern: the teaching staff, who represent about half the personnel in both schools, and the non-teaching staff — including the school secretary, cleaning staff, canteen supervisors, nursery assistants who support teachers in early years classes, and SEN assistants who work with pupils with special needs. All members of this community have access to Whaller. In addition, administrators and several volunteers from our management organisation and the parents’ association are also involved.
How does Whaller meet your daily needs?
We use the Whaller platform as an essential communication tool between various stakeholders, enabling project design and the deployment of teaching initiatives across France. At first, we mainly used the news feed to exchange messages between staff. Gradually, we adopted the file-sharing spaces and shared calendar, expanding usage step by step. Today, it has become a standard tool for internal communication across our teams.
It has now been two and a half years since our schools started using Whaller as part of our communication system. At Saint-Christophe School, adoption was very intuitive, with strong peer support in learning to use the tool. Implementation happened quickly — within a few weeks or months. The analytics even showed a high engagement rate from the very start.
How has the Whaller platform met your specific needs?
I needed to harmonise and professionalise communication practices within the educational community. Before I arrived, communication across both schools was mostly done through emails or WhatsApp — unstructured, scattered, and overwhelming, especially during the Covid period. With Whaller, I was able to organise and institutionalise these exchanges, making it the official channel for information. Using Whaller has truly saved time and energy across all types of communication needs.
Which Whaller features are most useful to you?
For instance, the main “School Sphere”, which gathers the entire educational community, allows us to publish announcements about upcoming events — such as organising a charity raffle. With its poster, the event is automatically added to the school calendar with reminders, and we can even launch polls to see which staff members or volunteers are available to help. The school also makes extensive use of the Whaller Box, particularly among the teaching team. The file box enables easy and flexible document storage. In education, we deal with numerous forms to complete. The file box allows us to store and access, effortlessly, all the official circulars published each year by the local education authority, along with the associated forms.
What are your future goals?
In the medium term, I would like to share these practices and experiences with fellow headteachers, as the Saint-Christophe and Sainte-Adèle schools are part of a wider educational group. Whaller offers a loyalty programme with a “Whallies” reward system that recognises actions and engagement. I intend to implement a similar approach to highlight and reward the involvement of all staff and community members in my schools.
